An old piece very personal to me. Originally, my intention was to create the most beautiful, inspirational scene I could imagine. Some bright and sparkling scene with flowers and such. Instead this happened. I set it on fire at the time, but quickly stomped it out. It's flaking a bit, but has survived. I later came to accept that, coming from my heart, this piece is more genuinely mine than the piece I originally envisioned, beautiful or not. I keep the original copy more for sentimental reasons, but may redo it in the future and fix some technical issues. Done in oil pastel, my true love in the world of mediums.

Your wish to create the most beautiful maybe came true, just not in the form that you have expected. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and maybe subconsciously you were going through a dark phase. I find it quite beautiful and inspirational and the darkness of the burnt parts enhances the light that comes through.
I'm also quite impressed by the fact that It was done in oil pastels, I end up usually smoothing it all completely with mineral spirits till I almost lose the image... but that's just my way of working with most of the mediums. Overall, well done!

Thanks, I appreciate your kind comments. I've never thought of using medium or spirits w/oil pastel. Will have to try it sometime. I've always just used fingers for blending, and a paper towel to scrub pigment into the pores of the paper.

there's such a nice contrast between the bright reds and yellows and the dark blues in this.
